Independent Patriots for Change leader Panduleni Itula has called for the withdrawal of the petroleum bill, saying it is unnecessary.
Itula was speaking at a media briefing in Windhoek on Tuesday.
The bill seeks to transfer oil and gas sector powers to president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s office.
“Withdraw the bill completely, it is not necessary. It’s taking away parliamentary powers and its supremacy,” he said.
Itula called on citizens to reject the centralisation of the country’s economic power and insist on a lawful accountable upstream governance architecture.
He said the bill increases the probability of corruption because it increases structural conditions that make corruption possible.
