Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) parliamentarian John-Louw Mouton has taken aim at the government’s visa-on-arrival programme, which is allegedly managed by a foreign individual.
The IPC information and communication shadow minister on Wednesday asked pime minister Elijah Ngurare why an individual was managing the programme, and why a Kenyan company has allegedly been appointed to facilitate the payments.
This could compromise the sovereignty of the nation, Mouton said.
“As leader of e-government systems, which are under the Office of the Prime Minister, could the prime minister give us clarity in recent reports that the government online visa on arrival system is being controlled by an Indian developer?
“. . . whose power can overrule official decisions and refuse to grant access to information and communication,” he said.
The prime minister said the allegations need to be fact-checked before the government can respond to them.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security on Thursday said the allegations are false.
