Internationals Performing in Namibia Boost Locals Ethnix

UNWRAP.ONLINESensational music group Ethnix Namibia have shared their recent experience performing alongside leading South African Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond.

The group says it was a really cool experience that would set them on track to becoming international stars.

The ambitious Ethnix Namibia comprises Julius ‘Page’ Hamwele and Etjo Kangumine, and is famous for its fusion of R&B and rap with traditional music.

Blaq Diamond is hailed as the most consistent and dominant music pair in the South African industry.

Hamwele and Kangumine say their experience went beyond their expectations and the highlight for them was that they have a similar sound to Blaq Diamond, which will make future collaborations easier.

Hamwele says he is especially grateful for being granted the opportunity to share the stage with the South African band.

He says Namibian artists should be treated with the same respect as international acts, rather than just being good enough for opening shows.

“Gigs like his, especially when you get a local headlining with an international act, more or less portray the narrative of our local artists being seen on the same level as international artists. We must remember that international artists are also locals in their countries. It also gives the crowd a better perspective of how important local artists are. Having them as support acts in a way belittles Namibian art,” he said.

Hamwele is confident that the performance and exposure will open doors for them as musicians and will additionally elevate the quality of music in Namibia.
