Trustco Group Holdings has launched a company probe after its internal and forensics investigation unit chief operations officer (COO) was implicated in a robbery at Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia).
The Namibian Police on Saturday evening confirmed that the COO, Max Endjala, was involved in the heist, and that he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The police further said a second suspect, a security officer employed by Namdia, is in police custody.
In a press statement issued on Monday morning, Trustco spokesperson Neville Basson said Endjala was tragically killed during an armed robbery and shooting incident on Saturday.
“Max was a valued member of the Trustco family for more than 21 years,” he said.
While further details regarding the incident remain under investigation, the company has established an internal investigations team, led by the head of its group legal, risk and compliance unit, and is cooperating fully with authorities to ensure justice is served, Basson said.
