The Namibia Indoor Hockey Men’s Premier League title race is still wide open following the third round of matches last weekend.
Windhoek Old Boys Hockey Club (WOBHC) and School of Excellence Hockey Club (SOE) both recorded big victories to set the pace at the top of the log, but Saints I is also well placed in third position.
WOBHC thumped DTS 10-0 to go to the top of the log on seven points, following two wins and a draw from their opening three matches.
Old Boys took a while to break down DTS’ defence, with Dian la Cock scoring their first goal from a short corner in the fifth minute, while Matu Kavikairiua made it 2-0 from another short corner on the stroke of half-time.
Old Boys, however, moved up a gear after the break, scoring five more goals in the third quarter, and three more in the final quarter to run out commanding winners.
Ernest Jacobs led the way with a hat-trick, while La Cock, Kavikairiua and Brynn Cleak scored two goals each and Percy Barthram one.
SOE, meanwhile, moved up to second position, just a point behind Old Boys, after an impressive 7-1 victory against Wanderers.
Kave Tjikuniva gave them the lead with a field goal in the first quarter while two more field goals by Delron Handura put them 3-0 ahead at the half-time break.
Handura completed his hat-trick in the third quarter, and although Wanderers managed to open their account from a short corner by Willem Louwrens, SOE added two more goals by Tjikuniva and one by Handura in the final quarter to run out comfortable winners.
Saints 1 are also firmly in the title race, on four points, but with a match in hand on the leaders, while Saints II follow on three points, and Wanderers and DTS on one each.
In the Women’s Premier League, Saints have taken a commanding lead after winning their first four matches in style, scoring 36 goals and only conceding four.
They received strong opposition from their closest rivals WOB before winning 4-3, but then comfortably beat DTS 5-0, while thumping Wanderers 12-1 and 15-0.
