Indongo and wife escape death

WELL-KNOWN business mogul Frans Aupa Indongo and his wife Beatha escaped death when their luxury Lexus SUV hit a taxi and crashed into a roadside building at Adolfi near Omaalala village on the Odangwa-Oshakati main road on Thursday.

Some eyewitnesses said a taxi that was parked by the side of the road just took off in front of Indongo who was coming from Ondangwa.

The SUV rammed into the taxi, burst the front left tyre and then crashed into a roadside flat after Indongo lost control of the vehicle.

A teacher from Onamutai Combined School who was in the flat escaped unhurt although part of the wall fell on her legs.

She was rushed to hospital where it was discovered that her legs were not broken.

She is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Ongwediva.

Indongo and his wife were taken to Oshakati State Hospital and were later transferred to the Ongwediva Private Hospital for check-up before they were discharged.

“We are lucky and thank God for having spared us in this terrible accident,” Indongo, who complained of pain in the ribs, said.

Oshana police commander Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa said they are investigating the accident.

Indongo told The Namibian that they had come to the north from their farm outside Otjiwarongo to attend the funeral of his son Frans Konekeni Indongo on Saturday at Okapumbu village, 40 kilometres west of Oshakati.
