Independence not past event – Oshana governor

Oshana governor Hofni Iipinge says Independence Day is not an event of the past but an ongoing responsibility requiring active participation from all citizens.

Speaking during the region’s Independence Day commemoration at Oshakati on Saturday, the governor said nationhood must be continuously nurtured through collective effort, commitment and shared vision.

“This year’s commemoration reminds us that independence is not an event of the past, but a continuous journey,” the governor said.

“It calls upon all of us to contribute meaningfully towards nation-building, economic growth and social progress,” he said.

He highlighted the Oshana region’s commitment to accelerating development across key sectors, with a particular focus on improving service delivery and uplifting communities.

“As a region, we remain committed to advancing development, improving service delivery and empowering our people, especially the youth, women and vulnerable members of our society,” Iipinge said.
