Newly-appointed Namibia Football Association (NFA) technical director Salome Iiyambo feels honoured and up to the challenge of helping to develop the game in the country.

The NFA on Wednesday announced that Iiyambo would fill the strategic role effective 1 December.

“It means a lot for the panelists and appointing authorities to have trust in me and my record,” said Iiyambo.

“My mandate is to strategically lead and account for the technical functions at the NFA to help develop the game of football in all its spheres.”

The ex-Brave Gladiators vice captain has extensive sport administration experience and qualifications. She is the only Namibian who has worked as an intern for the Member Associations Division at the Fifa headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland, and is a Fifa women’s football consultant for Africa.

Iiyambo holds an international masters in management, law and humanities of sport, obtained from three joined universities in England, Italy and Switzerland.

She has been a Confederation of African Football (CAF) women’s football instructor since 2016 and obtained a CAF C-Licence in 2018.

Iiyambo also served as a national development officer at the Namibia Sport Commission from 2012.

“It is pleasing to know that my own teammate, coach and previous holder [Jaqueline Shipanga] of the position in an acting capacity is there to guide me through,” Iiyambo said.
