FORMER Swapo parliamentarian and deputy minister Petrus Iilonga died last night in a Windhoek hospital after a long illness. He was 71.
Iilonga was a senior member of the executive from 1995 until 2015 and served as a deputy minister in various portfolios, including defence and environment and tourism, from 2000 to 2015.
He was also secretary general of the Namibia Public Workers’ Union from 1988 to 2000.
During the liberation struggle he was a PLAN fighter and was locked up on Robben Island in South Africa.
