Housebreaking tops weekend crime spree

THERE were three housebreakings in Windhoek over the weekend, all on Friday.

Two took place in Olympia while one was in the Central Business District. In the CBD, an employee of an architectural firm was subdued while thieves made off with three laptops and a cellphone worth N$24 000 in total. In Olympia’s Laurent Desire Kabila Street, a thief entered a house by cutting security bars with a bolt cutter and made off with two laptops, a handbag and a radio worth N$28 200. Finally, in Moses Tjitendero Street, thieves stole a laptop and a television from a house. * At Rehoboth, Alberto Dennis Rondia (30) was stabbed in the neck at about 01h00 yesterday and died on the scene.A suspect has been arrested and will appear in court today.* There was an armed robbery and attempted murder on Saturday evening in Visarend Street, Khomasdal. Aldorico Waterboer (24) was shot in the foot before thieves made off with a cellphone and a pair of shoes.* An attempted murder left 29-year-old Dreyer Martin in hospital after he was shot in the right eye in Omutula Street in Hakahana. Martin is in a stable condition in the Katutura State Hospital. * A Policeman, identified as Tangeni Hamutenya, died in a head-on collision between Ondangwa and Ongwediva over the weekend.
