HopSol Youth Soccer League gets underway

THE HopSol Youth Soccer League got underway over the weekend with hundreds of school children taking part in the opening round of matches at various venues in Windhoek.

The official opening on Friday afternoon went by with little fanfare as Cosmos High School beat Academia Secondary School in an u19 match at an empty Sam Nujoma Stadium.

The next day, however, saw a bevy of activity, especially at the DTS fields in Olympia, where matches took place the whole day in front of enthusiastic parents and supporters.

There were only three matches in the u19 category, with Cosmos and Delta Secondary School Windhoek (DSSW) getting off to winning starts.

DSSW beat Hage Geingob High School 3-2, and Cosmos beat Academia 1-0, while Concordia College and Falcon Football Academy (FFA) battled it out to a 2-2 draw.

In the u17 league, SKW went to the top of the log after a 6-2 victory against Academia, while Cosmos also got off to a winning start, beating FFA 5-3.

St Josephs High School and Ramblers drew 1-1, while Concordia College and Hage Geingob High School drew 0-0.

Cosmos High School went to the top of the u15 log after beating Hage Geingob 3-0, while DTS also got off to a good start, beating MH Greeff Primary School 4-2.

In other u15 matches, Eros Primary School beat Academia 3-2; VRK Football Academy beat Delta Secondary School Windhoek 2-0; Ramblers beat St Josephs 2-1, and Falcon Football Academy (FFA) and SKW drew 3-3.

In the u13 league, Ramblers and SKW both recorded big victories to go to the top of the log.

Ramblers beat MH Greeff 9-0 and SKW beat Mandume Primary School (MPS) by the same score.

Namutoni Primary School (NPS) and Khomasdal Primary School (KPS) also got off to winning starts, with Namutoni beating DTS 7-1, and KPS beating Windhoek International School (WIS) 6-3.

There were some big victories in the u11 league, with KPS going to the top of the log after thrashing WIS 15-1.

SKW thrashed MPS 10-0, FFA beat Athletic Club Football Academy (ACFA) 11-4, Ramblers thumped MH Greeff 7-1, and DTS beat NPS 5-3.

There were also some high-scoring matches in the u9 league, with SKW going to the top of the log after thrashing MPS 13-1, while Ramblers beat MH Greeff 11-0.

In other matches, ACFA beat FFA 8-3, KPS beat WIS 6-1 and NPS beat DTS 8-4.
