Hindjou to start for Stars

CONGO Hindjou will finally make his debut for African Stars when they take on Blue Waters in the FNB Cup at Windhoek’s Independence Stadium tomorrow.

The former Civics midfield maestro joined Stars at the beginning of the season, but has yet to make his debut after injuring his groin during pre-season training. He has now fully recovered and is looking forward to making a winning start for Stars.”I injured my groin when I slipped during training, but I have now fully recovered and can’t wait to make my debut for Stars,” he said.”I’m looking forward to the match against Blue Waters and I’d like to make an impact.I’ve been training for the past two weeks and I like to do well for my new club,” he said.Hindjou said the spirit was high in the Stars camp and they were eager to win tomorrow’s match.”The spirit in the camp is very high and we want to win the cup for our supporters and our coach who is doing a great job,” Hindjou said.Stars can certainly do with Hindjou’s talents in the engine room after an indifferent start to the league. They lost their opening league encounter at home to Eleven Arrows and are currently in seventh position after only picking up four points from their opening three matches.Stars, however, have built up a fine cup record over the past few years. They were the losing finalists of the FNB Cup for the past two years in a row, while they are also the current MTC NFA Cup champions.Blue Waters also have a proud cup record, having won the FNB Cup in 2005, but they have struggled over the past season. They have lost many of their top players to other clubs, as well as their chairman Hendrik Dawids and coach Shepherd Murape, who joined Pirates at the beginning of the season.Former Brave Warriors goalkeeper Sparks Gottlieb was appointed as the new coach, but their league campaign got off to a poor start with only one point from three matches, which sees them lying tenth on the log, with only the promoted teams Mighty Gunners and Fedics below them. The match between African Stars and Blue Waters is scheduled to start at 16h00.CYMOT SKW V OSHAKATI CITY In the first match tomorrow, Cymot SKW take on Oshakati City at 14h00.The teams weigh up quite evenly although SKW have made a better start to the new season. They are still unbeaten after their first three league matches and are lying sixth on the log with five points.Oshakati are yet to register a win in the league and are currently ninth on the log on two points.Oshakati City are however good travellers and were unlucky to lose their last league match 2-1 to Civics, when they conceded a dubious penalty in the final minute. With the evergreen Cascas Angula looking sharp up front and other quality players like Raphael Nuumbembe, Kleophas David, Farao Hangula and Samson Kawawa in their midst, they will fancy their chances of beating SKW.They will also be strengthened by the availability of their Brave Warriors strikers Muna and Tara Katupose.SKW have a fine defence, while the industrious Marco van Wyk has been sharp midfield, but their strikers need to make their mark. Here they will be looking to Arend von Stryk and Johnny Stephanus to deliver the goods.PIRATES V FEDICS In the third match at 18h00, Orlando Pirates will start as firm favourites against Fedics.Pirates comprehensively beat Fedics 3-0 in a league match on October 13 and should once again be too strong for the Premier League newcomers, who are currently bottom of the log.Pirates have an array of star players and will be strengthened by the return of their national players Athiel Mbaha, Rudi Louw and Richard Gariseb, as well as Klaas Blom and Patrick Jagger who were called up for next week’s friendly against Saudi Arabia.Fedics have some talented players in their team like Shayur McKay, Clerence Andries and Roberto Krohne, as well as the youngest player in the league in the 14-year-old Imperth Isaacks. They are not expected to make an impact, but, as Mighty Gunners showed against Civics last weekend, anything is possible in a cup match.RAMBLERS V TIGERS In the final match at 20h00 Ramblers take on Tigers.Ramblers have started the league well and are currently second on the log, just behind Pirates on goal difference. They have made several new signings, with, ironically, three former Tigers players – Nelson Akwenye, Jeremia Baisako and Pinias Jacob – all doing well for their new club. With other stalwarts like Bernadine Mbilizi, Michael Pienaar and Samson John all showing good form, they will start the match as favourites against Tigers.Tigers, under new coach Forresta Nicodemus, have made a disappointing start to the season and are lying eighth on the log on two points. They will be looking to their inspirational strikers Leonard Stanley and Dokkies Schmidt to deliver the goods, while their new Tanzanian signing, Kalume Sangoro could also make an impact. The entrance fee is N$50 for the VIP section, N$20 for adults and N$10 for children under 12, and N$10 for vehicles.www.namibiasport.com.naHe has now fully recovered and is looking forward to
