Hilton brand arrives in Namibia

HILTON Worldwide and the United Africa Group yesterday signed a management agreement with UAG Group Executive Director Haddis Tilahun for the Eliakim Namundjebo Plaza Hotel in Windhoek.

Scheduled to open in April 2010, Windhoek Hilton ENP will be the first Hilton hotel in Namibia.Hilton Worldwide’s Vice President Development: Europe & Africa, Deepak Seth, was excited about the 20-year management contract, stating that Windhoek Hilton ENP will join 3 500 Hilton hotels worldwide with more than 22 million members. ‘We are delighted to sign our first Hilton in Namibia. We firmly believe the hotel expands the tourism and hospitality industry and exposes Namibia as a destination to more 22 million Hilton members worldwide.’Hilton is the proud flagship brand of Hilton Hotels Corporation in existence for over 90 years and the most recognised name in the global lodging industry.Tilahun said the signing ceremony was a historic moment and one that culminated over two years of negotiations. ‘I am fully convinced that the opening of the first Hilton in Namibia will be a refreshing and welcome choice of accommodations for Namibian and international travellers. The Hilton brand is one of a kind and we are thrilled to be a part of this historical achievement in Namibia.’He added that the hotel was on track for completion come April 2010 ahead of the FIFA Soccer world cup to be hosted in South Africa. ‘We are on time and within budget to complete the hotel and host local and international guests in world-class accommodation.’ When it opens, the N$250 million Windhoek Hilton ENP will offer 125 world-class luxury rooms spread over six floors, a presidential suite, a casino, restaurant as well as a 24-hour business centre and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi Internet access.
