National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) parliamentarian Vetaruhe Kandorozu says when he met Swapo parliamentarian James Uerikua, he asked him when he would join the party.
Kandorozu says he was surprised because nobody ever asked him such a thing.
He was speaking at a memorial service honouring Uerikua at Parliament Gardens in Windhoek on Wednesday.
“I was so agitated at him because what he asked me meant I must live my Nudo deputy secretary post at the time to join the queue and wait for five years. But I didn’t take it too hard because we were there to deliberate on issues affecting our community,“ he said.
He recalled Uerikua as a cattle lover and a young leader who could own a platform.
He said Swapo lost one of its strongest soldiers, as Uerikua was a strong defender of the party in the National Assembly, countering arguments from opposition parties.
Kandorozu said Uerikua’s flamboyant spirit and character will be missed, and his impact on many lives will never be forgotten.
