Hatutale releases second edition of board game

AFRICAN Challenge is the first educational board game of its kind developed on the continent.

Created by a Namibian, Jesaja Denis Hatutale, in 1993, the game uses a professional and modern approach to educate Africans about their governments, history, geography, tourism, human rights and general science. It promotes peace while focusing on socio-economic development. Hatutale has just launched the second edition of the game, which will be manufactured and assembled in Windhoek. He said he wants to move the assembly of the game to the Ohangwena Region (Ongha) and other areas in the north depending on demand. Currently five women are being trained to assemble the game. This would give jobs to unskilled and semi-skilled unemployed youth. The African Challenge game is accredited by the Namibian Institute for Educational Development (NIED) for distribution to schools.The game offers a worthwhile pastime for primary school pupils, high school and university students as well as adults. The game cards are a powerful information resource on their own. The game consists of 1 600 questions and answers about Africa, which are divided into four categories namely government and human rights, history, science and geography, nature, wildlife and tourism. Hatutale is financing the game with a grant from the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs. So far 5 000 copies of the game have been produced and interested people can contact him at 081-258 9271.
