MORE than N$10 million was generated at the recent Hartebeestloop auction handled by Agra, with 19 bulls sold for N$100 000 and more each.
The highest price fetched was N$400 000, paid by Edward Hansen of Emok Bonsmaras, while Tensmar Bonsmara from South Africa paid N$340 000 for a bull. Seven Bonsmaras went for amounts varying from N$220 000 to N$280 000.’It was fireworks, and exceeded our expectations once again,’ said Joggie Briedenhann, owner of Hartebeestloop.’The results are not only the fruit of a year’s hard work, but ten years of selection and inputs. A total of 45 Hartebeestloop bulls fetched an average price of N$123 000.The auction offered a wide variety from different regions consisting of the offspring of more than 35 different stud sires and were snatched up by the successful bidders out of the 130 prospective buyers who registered, Agra said in a statement.A total of 56 bulls were offered, of which 55 sold at an average price of N$111 309. The lowest price fetched was N$4 000.Four cows were offered and sold at an average price of N$15 625. The highest price paid was N$17 000, while the lowest was N$13 000.A total of 56 cows and calves were offered. All were sold at an average price of N$22 295. The highest price was N$34 000, and the lowest N$13 000.Ten cows-in-calf were sold and offered at an average price of N$19 800. The highest price fetched was N$26 000, while N$16 000 was the lowest price.Sixteen heifers were offered and sold at an average price of N$14 250. The highest price paid was N$20 000, while the lowest was N$11 000.A total of 45 heifers-in-calf were offered and sold at an average price of N$16 889. The highest price paid was N$26 000, while the lowest was N$10 000.
