Hartebeestloop auction smashes records again

RECORDS were shattered again at the recent annual Hartebeestloop stud auction with the average selling price for bulls reaching N$78 340.

Eight bulls were sold for more than N$100 000, while the most expensive bull fetched a price of N$480 000. Last year’s auction set a new African record for the average selling price of bulls at N$70 881. Six bulls were sold for more than N$100 000 and the most expensive bull reached a selling price of N$450 000.The breeders of the Hartebeestloop Bonsmaras, Joggie Briedenhann and Nico Visser, agreed that this year’s bull standard was of exceptional quality, as Agra’s pre-auction grading of the bulls confirmed.ER Hansen of Emok paid N$480 000 for a Hartebeestloop Bonsmara. The following farmers also paid handsomely for Bonsmaras: R Horn (N$180 000), CJ van Tonder Jr (N$200 000), RHK Kirsten (N$200 000), Bacab (Pty) Ltd (N$130 000), Jorg von Dewitz Jr (N$100 000), and the Pieter de Lange Trust (N$155 000)The auction also included top quality bulls from five guest sellers: S & H Coetzee (Hochfeldstreek Bonsmaras), CJ van Tonder (Komaweer Bonsmara), D N van Wyk (Millikena Bonsmaras), B H & C Mouton (Wagner Bonsmaras), H E von Wielligh (Sonnegloed Bonsmaras), and J A Smith (Swartland Bonsmaras).
