Hang in there, Helao Nafidi

PETER Carolissen, Deputy Mayor of the flood-stricken Helao Nafidi town in the North, is encouraging the people of Oshikango, Engela, Omafo, Ohangwena and Onhuno to “be strong in these very trying times”, and to assist one another where possible.

He said the community was very grateful to the Pakistani businessmen for constructing a pedestrian bridge to link Engela with the rest of the country after floodwater destroyed the road bridge to the town recently. Carolissen called upon the community to maintain the bridge, and said although it was only temporary, the bridge was “a lifesaver” in the present situation.”There may still be much water coming, so I want the people to be patient and strong, because sooner or later this flood will also be water under the bridge,” he told The Namibian.Carolissen is currently recuperating in Walvis Bay after suffering a heart attack recently. He said he hoped to return to Helao Nafidi soon.Carolissen called upon the community to maintain the bridge, and said although it was only temporary, the bridge was “a lifesaver” in the present situation.”There may still be much water coming, so I want the people to be patient and strong, because sooner or later this flood will also be water under the bridge,” he told The Namibian.Carolissen is currently recuperating in Walvis Bay after suffering a heart attack recently. He said he hoped to return to Helao Nafidi soon.
