• Netumbo Nekomba and Walter KarikoValentine’s Day is approaching fast. With many of us expecting gifts, gadgets and all things that have to do with love, there are quite a number of ways to make your lover feel special this Valentine’s Day.
Some people prefer giant teddy bears to cuddle at night, while others prefer something simple like a picnic in the park or at the beach. With shops already preparing for the much commercialised day by showering their stores in red hearts and teddy bears, this man-made holiday provides the perfect opportunity to prove just how much you care.
“My Valentine’s gift will be an embroidered brown leather Dopp kit travel bag, cuddling and fun until the kissing happens,” Perivii David said. “Then, well, sh*t gets real!”
Stating that the day is not overrated at all, Angelo Malgas weighed in on why it’s important. “I think time spent together on that day is more valuable than any gift money can buy. Of course, with an exception of the traditional chocolate, roses and/or teddy bear.”
There’s also nothing wrong with going DIY with your gifts. Writing a romantic letter, sprinkling rose petals on the floor, leading to a romantic dinner… Sometimes it’s the thought that counts. Gwashikoha Onime Hangula agrees. “The man in my life will be treated a home-cooked meal and no Valentine’s present at all. We’re supposed to love each other like it’s Valentine’s every day and exchange gifts when needs arise but not necessarily wait for Valentine’s to shower our loved ones with gifts.”
Ngurimuje Otto Jaepa also said that something simple was the way to go concerning gifts. “A homemade card, roses and all my time with her would be the perfect gift. We tend to concentrate more on spending on each other rather than spending quality time with our loved ones.”
