A grade 6 pupil (15) has been arrested and charged with murder and robbery following the death of a woman (60) at Onheleiwa in the Omusati region.
The victim was allegedly attacked inside her home last Friday.
According to the police report, the boy allegedly entered the pensioner’s house and struck her on the back of her head with an unknown object, causing injuries that later proved fatal.
The police say the boy allegedly took the woman’s cellphone and SIM card after the attack.
“The suspect entered the victim’s house and assaulted her with an unknown object on the back of the head, causing fatal injuries and removed her properties (phone and SIM card),” the police report states.
Omusati police commander commissioner Ismael Basson yesterday confirmed that the boy had been arrested and appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he faces charges of murder and robbery.
He reportedly lives in a neighbouring house and is believed to be related to the pensioner.
The suspect is a Grade 6 pupil at a primary school in the area.
The school principal yesterday confirmed that the accused attends the school.
“Yes, he is from my school and he is in Grade 6,” the principal said.
Omusati education director Paulus Kashiimbi, however, says: “My office has not been informed about the matter.”
Basson says the case was postponed to 29 October.
