Lawyer Kadhila Amoomo has urged the Ministry of Justice and Labour Relations to begin preparations to compensate the family of the late Ondangwa prosecutor, Justine Shiweda.
Shiweda (30) died on Saturday at a Windhoek hospital after sustaining injuries from a shooting and acid attack at Ondangwa in October last year.
In a social media post on Saturday, Amoomo described Shiweda’s death as a tragic loss for the legal profession.
“For their failure to protect our colleague, the ministry of justice must immediately commence the reparations process to compensate the family, particularly for the sake of her children,” he wrote.
Amoomo added that Shiweda’s death has shaken the foundations of the judiciary and raised serious concerns about the safety of prosecutors.
He warned that fear must never become a defining feature of public service in the justice sector.
“Our children must never grow up thinking that to be a prosecutor is to pay for it with your life,” he said.
