THE United People’s Movement (UDM) parliamentarian, Jan van Wyk, has questioned prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila over a portion of land that was allegedly illegally taken from the “Rehoboth Baster Gemeente” without compensation.
In the National Assembly on Tuesday, Van Wyk alleged that the Namibian government took portion one of farm Sandputz from a private group of people on 21 August 2020.
“The action of the Namibian government, by expropriating properties of the community without consultation and just compensation, is a violation of the rights of members of the community.
“We regard the action of the Namibian government as fraudulent and misuse of power,” he told Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.
Van Wyk argued that the government’s reason to expropriate the land without talking to the community does not apply because the ‘Rehoboth Baster Gemeente’ is a private association.
“The ‘Rehoboth Baster Gemeente’, is a private association of persons and therefore, paragraph one of schedule five of the Namibian Constitution is not applicable to properties registered in its name,” Van Wyk said.
He wants the prime minister to stop any transaction related to this matter and to find an amicable solution.
