TURA Magic and Galz & Goals set the early pace as they both scored emphatic wins when the Skorpion Zinc NFA Women’;s Super League started at the NFA’;s Technical Centre on Saturday.
Tura Magic thrashed Nust Babes 6-0, and could easily have doubled that score, while Gals & Goals beat Omaheke Queens 6-2.
Namib Daughters and Right Way FC also got off to opening round wins, beating Girls Football Academy 2-0 and Unam Bokkies 1-0 respectively, while V Power Angels and Omaheke Queens drew 0-0.
Tura Magic, who fielded nearly a full team of national players, were far too strong for Nust Babes and dominated from the start. But with a combination of luck and some poor finishing, Nust Babes managed to keep Tura Magic at bay for most of the first half.
Memory Ngonda missed at least three clear chances, hitting the post on two occasions, while Thomalina Adams, Millicent Hikuam, Yvonne Kooper all came close.
Ngonda finally opened Magic’;s account just before half time when she latched onto a pass by Elmarie Fredericks and beat Nust keeper Jessica Garoes from close range.
The one-way traffic continued in the second half with Adams terrorising Nust Babes’; defence with her pace and fine dribbling skills, while substitute Juliana Blou also looked dangerous.
Adams scored two goals, Ngonda scored a second goal, and Lovisa Mulunga and Juliana Blou one each as Tura Magic ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.
Galz & Gals also got off to a fine start with a 6-2 victory against Omaheke Queens.
Queens managed to hold Galz & Goals at bay for much of the first half, but the floodgates opened after the break with national u20 striker Beverley Uueziua scoring a brace and Julia Rutjindo, Shanice Daries and Kamberipa Uripi one each, while Queens also scored an own goal.
The big surprise of the day, though, was the goalless draw between V Power Angels and the star studded Khomas Nampol side.
The experienced Khomas Nampol, which included eight national players in their starting lineup, could not break down the Angels’; defence, where Stacey Naris was in outstanding form.
Angels’; national u20 striker Fiola Viete even had a few opportunities to win the match, but Nampol keeper Susanna Eises brought off some fine saves.
Namib Daughters beat Girls Football Academy 2-0 with Ignacia Haoseb scoring both goals, while Right Way FC beat Unam Bokkies 1-0 through a goal by Lilie Kasheeta.
