Gladiators off to Angola

The Young Gladiators will be playing in a friendly match against their Angolan counterparts on Saturday as part of Angola 38th Independence celebrations.

The team departs on Friday and the match will be played on Saturday in Luanda at the Football Academy Stadium.

The Gladiators’ head coach Jacqueline Shipanga thanked the Angolans for the invitation, saying she was looking forward to the trip.

“They are our good neighbours and they always remember our teams. The Brave Warriors have been going there, as well as our national under-20 side and now it is the Young Gladiators. I’m glad we are having more and more international games and this is very good for the team,” Shipanga said.

The Young Gladiators last weekend bowed out of the 2014 FIFA Women’s Under-20 World Cup qualifiers after losing the second leg 2-0 in Zambia for an aggregate defeat of 3-0. Zambia won the first leg 1-0 in Windhoek two weeks ago.

The team is mostly made up of Under 20 national players although a few seniors like Stella Williams, Esther Amukwaya, Stacey Naris, Ina Katuta and Juliana Skrywer.
