Ghana wants to partner with Namibia on oil

The Ghanaian ambassador to Namibia says Ghana is interested in Namibian oil, as businesspeople have expressed a desire to invest in the country.

Alhaji Attah made the remarks in an interview with Desert FM on Thursday, as Ghana continues to celebrate its independence.

Attah added that the oil discoveries are not only exciting for Namibia but for the entire continent, and that more businesspeople are ready to partner with the country in this venture.

He said since he was approached, these are projects he would like to be involved in.

“Namibia is one of the countries we are excited about. By we, I mean Ghanaians are excited about your oil and other energy finds, if I may say so. There’s much excitement.

In fact, a number of private Ghanaian businessmen in the energy sector have already been in touch with me to prepare the grounds for them to come and look around and see just where they can fit themselves in,” he said.

He said the Iran, United States and Israel war provides an opportunity for Africa to unite.

Attah adds that oil reaching US$100 per barrel will be challenging for many African countries.

“We have to put our thinking caps on and then we also have to think of the alternatives to the hydrocarbon side of the industry. I mean, we just have to come together.

“That’s the very basis of all these things we are talking about. If Africa doesn’t come together, if we don’t have a kind of union in certain things, especially in our economies, then we can’t do much. Right now is for us to start thinking seriously, to put our thinking caps on,” the ambassador said.
