Ghana Fashion and Design Week showcases exquisite lines

The just concluded edition of Ghana Fashion and Design Week 2013 showcased an array of exquisite apparel lines from a talented mix of Ghanaian and international designers.

The local design label 1981, featured its latest Spring/Summer 2014 collection Layers at the event. Designed by Nana Kweku Brenu, the hi-tech fabric made line included vividly structured and defined pieces inspired from the famous Design Museum Holon, Israel.

The womenswear label TAP Designs, founded by the popular design trio Thorpe Weyinmi, Adeosun Toluwalase and Patrick Ifie, featured their contemporary African fashion range replete with dresses, ankaras, shift tops and skirt suits with plunging necklines.

Women’s fashion brand Ajepomaa Designs Gallery, owned by Ajepomaa Mensah, presented an edgy yet playful look for the next spring season. Enhanced with the label’s signature use of shapes, the artistic ensembles were based on metallic shades of purple, orange and pink.

Nigerian brand Trish O Couture, by Patricia Onumonu, showcased its S/S-14 resort line titled Diamante Resort Collection at the prestigious event. The pieces included grid patterned dresses, sheer shifts and tops.

Other than the highly innovative catwalk presentations, young designers’ competitions, trade exhibitions, pop-up showrooms and knowledge transfer seminars were also organized on the sidelines of the prestigious do, held in the country’s capital city of Accra.
