Getting Over Your Ex

Breaking up with someone you love is always a painful experience. Whether it’s crying a bucket of tears in your room while watching your favourite series or completely ignoring the fact that your heart is broken, everyone has their own way to get over the heartbreak and start over in their own way.

For Popi Shiinda, it was as simple as ABC. “I started breathing and I overcame! ” she said. But Valerie Lewinski did more than that. “I basically deleted his number and pictures.

And whenever I would think of him, I forced myself to think of his bad traits, for example, how he chewed loudly, how sloppy he walked, how he didn’t spell well and how loudly he snored. Voila! That was consolation enough for me to convince myself that I have enough evidence to get over him. ”

But Jesse Amunyela had another strategy in mind. “Once you truly start to focus on yourself, the ‘I can’t live without you’ sentiment starts to fade away. The more time you spend on your own and enjoy your own company, the more you get to know yourself. It’s a process. ”

And Musa Kaseke preferred to keep it cool. “I just smiled and waved, ” he said. And life went on.

Others decided to erase any reminders of their loved ones. “I deleted his number and photos. And printed ‘Life Goes On!’ onto one of my T shirts. Thanks for the experience! ” Ailly Angula said.

The same goes for Ndapewa Salom. “I deleted his number and pictures. I threw away everything that would remind me of him and just developed a strong habit to live without him. I stopped talking to his friends and family and stopped checking his profile pictures and WhatsApp statuses until I eventually forgot he existed. (This may or may not be true.) ”

Unfortunately, you can’t always forget your last love, but you can ease the pain with time.

“I just kept to myself and acted like I never knew him. And believed it would go away, ” Joyce Kamuzeri explained, while Esmereelda Pamaseda said she turned to a higher power for help to get over an ex. “I deleted his number, totally pulled up my socks and warmed myself in prayer with the help of God. I made it. ”

Sunny Imbili had her own way to get over her ex. “I just woke up and I was sooo over him. That’s how I got over him. ”

But Foibe Ndilokelwa ya David had a method of her own to get over her ex. “I deleted his number out of my phone although I knew it by heart. I still know it though, the most annoying thing ever! I stopped thinking about him although it was hard.

I stopped talking to his family members even though it was impossible. I started hanging out more often with my friends and doing what made me happy daily, like listening to music and watching movies all day long. I also became more serious with my school work. I even used to spend whole days on campus and later I realised it was really over! It was not easy at all but I managed and now I don’t even know where he lives. ”

Fernandu Chimuco, however, had another plan in mind. “I got over my ex girlfriend by making her my wife. ” Now isn’t that sweet!

Hilma Gwangwali felt tears were the best way to go. “I cried for some days as if I was at a funeral. From there, I started forgetting him. ”

Jonathan Solomons found solace in a trip to the bathroom. “I got over my ex with a shower and a nap. ”

Exodus Tobias kept his love close, but in a good way. “We built a solid friendship. ”

“Whenever I started thinking of him, I tried to keep myself busy or do something that would keep my mind occupied, ” Lucy Eliaser shared.

Emilia Nambahu decided to go the self care route by making time for herself. “I stopped making time for him because he didn’t have time for me, let him be and just backed off. I moved on with my life without a word, knowing that it wasn’t meant to be. ”

That must have hurt!

But women aren’t the only ones who shed tears. “I cried, a lot. Then the love I had for her went missing like Nemo, but unlike Nemo, that love was never found again, ” Frans Jambeinge shared.

Henok Pangeiko found strength in moving on. “I continued my life without her, even though I thought she was someone special. I didn’t need to see her any more and she became meaningless to me. ”

Julia Kapombo had her own method to share: “Well, I would be sad for a while, tweak my feed, b*tch it out, do something he hated, change my space, make over my look, pamper myself, challenge myself and finally get over him for good. ”

Useful! Erasmus Awaseb had to reset. “I set my mind to default. That’s the point before she ever existed in my life. ”

And Selma dos Santos pressed the off switch. “I deactivated the love that I had for him. Simple. I told myself that I can still get the one guy who is willing to make me happy and so I did, piece of cake. ” Deep!
