Germany supports Namibian football

Germany recently donated 130 footballs and 13 air pumps to the Namibian Football Association.

The donation was made by the German Ambassador to Namibia, Onno Hückmann, who handed the equipment over to the Secretary General of the NFA Barry Rukoro, during halftime of Tuesday’s friendly international between Namibia and Mozambique.

The NFA will distribute the footballs in different regions of the country. The donation is meant to promote youth and women’s football in particular as well as to improve regional infrastructure and sporting activities.

The donation by the Federal Foreign Office of Germany is made within the framework of its sports promotion programme which supports sports development in Namibia by, amongst others, seconding sport experts such as football coach Klaus Stärk who has been running a long- term project in Namibia since 2008.

Donations of sports equipment and the facilitation of training courses for coaches at various sport schools and universities in Germany are included in this programme.

At the even, Ambassador Hückmann also handed over certificates to Namibian football coaches Jacqui Shipanga and Gerald Güther, who successfully completed an International Coaching Course for an A Certificate in Hennef in Germany this year

The A Certificate is the highest possible coaching licence that can be attained in Germany. The programme is jointly organised and funded by the German Football Association (DFB) and the Federal Foreign Office.
