A VISIT by a group of German doctors to the Otavi Health Clinic earlier this year has resulted in a donation of more than N$700 000 worth of hospital beds, bedside lockers and baby cots to the health facility this week.
The clinic is also receiving support from the business community in the area, with renovations to four treatment rooms and the establishment of an Albino support initiative still in the pipeline. The German doctors made the donation as part of a non-profit organisation called Support eV, with the aim of providing various kinds of support to medical facilities in developing countries.Support eV visited Otavi in March at the invitation of local business Ohorongo Cement’s Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust.Following the visit, Support eV pledged to make a number of donations towards improving the town’s public infrastructure, Ohorongo spokesperson Kirsten Gunzel said.Health Minister Dr Richard Kamwi, as well as a number of other delegates from his ministry, attended the handover ceremony on Tuesday.’You made a giant step in the right direction. You can rest assured that the presence of the Permanent Secretary, the Director of the Otjozondjupa Region, and myself, clearly demonstrates how much we value this consignment,’ Kamwi said at the event. Also contributing were Woker Freight Services, Manica Group Namibia, MACS Shipping and Wesbank Transport, all freight companies who transported the donated equipment from Germany to Otavi.
