The Franchise T20 series which got underway at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground over the weekend is wide open with all four competing teams still in the running to win the title.
At the halfway stage of the tournament, the Eavion Eagles have taken a narrow lead over the Pupkewitz Wildcats, with both teams having won two and lost one match, while the Eagles have a better run rate of 1.50 compared to the Wildcats’ run rate of -0.48.
The NPL Bears and Paratus Jets make up the rear with both teams on two points after winning one of their three matches, while the Bears have a run rate of -0.33 and the Jets a run rate of -0.65.
A total of 1 999 runs have been scored in six matches to date at an average of 333 per match or 166 per innings, while a total of 74 wickets have been taken at an average of just over 12 per match. There have been some fantastic individual performances with national captain Gerhard Erasmus of the NPL Bears leading the way.
He leads the overall player rankings with 347 points, followed by JJ Smit of the Eagles on 303, Dylan Leicher of the Wildcats on 301, WP Myburgh of the NPL Bears on 296, and Ruben Trumpelmann of the Eagles on 258.
Erasmus is also the top batter of the tournament so far with 176 runs in three innings at an average of 88.00 and a top score of 134 not out.
Jan Frylinck of the Wildcats is second with 157 runs at an average of 52.33, with a highest score of 75, while WP Myburgh of the Bears is third with 140 runs at an average of 46.67 and a highest score of 68.
They are followed by Leicher with 138 runs at an average of 138.00 and a top score of 65; Trumpelmann with 113 runs at an average of 56.50 and a highest score of 64; and Smit with 109 runs at an average of 54.50 and a highest score of 66.
Leo Sadler of the Wildcats is the top wicket-taker with seven wickets at an average of 10.71 and a best performance of 3/26, followed by Ruan van Rooyen of the Eagles with seven wickets at an average of 11.29 and a best performance of 3/2; and Max Heingo of the Wildcats with six wickets at an average of 14.67 and a best performance of 2/15.
They are followed by WP Myburgh of the Bears with four wickets at an average of 14.50 and a best performance of 4/24; JJ Smit with four wickets at an average of 15.00 and a best performance of 2/37; and Handre Klazinga of the NPL Bears with four wickets at an average of 21.00 and a best performance of 2/27.
The outstanding performance of the tournament to date undoubtedly belongs to Erasmus who smashed 134 not out in the Bears’ 71-run victory against the Wildcats on Saturday. His innings came off only 66 balls and included eight fours and ten massive sixes at a remarkable strike rate of 203.03.
The series continues this coming weekend at the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground from Friday, 8 August to Sunday, 10 August.
