Valentine’s Day is done but love is still in the air as a duo of live music gigs wink from the weekend. If you have Friday evening free, Lize Ehlers at the newly opened Steampunk Factory and Lounge is the place to be, while Saturday is all about The Ells presenting ‘My Bloody Valentine’ at the Sweet Side of Thingz.
Reimagining her discography as a little soft rock and reggae, Ehlers will be accompanied by guitarist Imms Nicolau and vocalist Tjiuru Kuajoo.
“I have six albums that can be reinvented by just changing the genre slightly,” says Ehlers of the music for the evening.
For those unfamiliar with Steampunk’s situation, Ehlers, whose ticketed event kicks off at 19h30, offers some elucidation
“The Steampunk Factory and Lounge, located at 38 Calcium Street, Prosperita, is a cool new space where patrons can comfortably enjoy classy local entertainment while enjoying the widest variety of whiskeys and bourbons, some being sourced internationally and not easily found elsewhere,” says Ehlers.
“The steampunk theme comes from the custom art and furniture pieces produced by the “punks” during the day and the lounge is sort of a showroom to put this unique fantasy art style on display. The establishment is owned and run by Gerhard Mohrmann, father of one of Namibia’s top performers Aedin Mohrmann, also known as Atlantis.”
On Saturday, at the Sweet Side of Thingz on Independence Avenue, The Ells offer a selection of covers and new, original music. Having just dropped ‘Something’, their latest single on Valentine’s Day, the song will be included in an eclectic set list.
“’My Bloody Valentine’ promises a sonic rollercoaster featuring a mix of original songs, heart-wrenching ballads and classic love songs, all delivered in our signature acoustic, punk/rock style. The night will be filled with emotion, energy, and music that hits you right in the feels,” says one half of The Ells, Emmanuel Ndifon.
“’My Bloody Valentine’ welcomes everyone – whether you’re single, celebrating with friends, or nursing a lonely heart. The vibe is all about shared love for music, and enjoying an unforgettable night, regardless of your relationship status.”
Though Sweet Side of Thingz is known for its gourmet doughnuts, the ticketed event which begins at 19h00, has something different up its sleeve.
“No doughnuts, unfortunately,” says Ndifon. ‘But we’ve got both drinks and snacks ready. We also have an exciting live painting by Shamollah, which will complement the evening beautifully.”
Set to be a wonderful weekend with some of the best in the game, enthusiasts are encouraged to come out for the love of live music.
