Flawless Skin At Home

When it comes to self-esteem and confidence, appearances play a big role. Healthy, glowing skin doesn’t have to cost you countless trips to the dermatologist or vast amounts of money. With the right ingredients, vibrant skin can be obtained in the comfort of your own home.

As the YouTube vortex sucked me through various portals of random videos, I stumbled upon Janet Ubeji’s channel. Ubeji has multiple videos on home remedies for skin and hair treatments, and the one that stood out was the Colgate and Vaseline mask combination, which I decided to try.

The method is as simple as it can get: Mix a teaspoon of unscented Vaseline with an equal amount of original Colgate into a smooth paste with an even consistency. Before applying to your face, test a small amount of the paste on your arm to check for any form of irritation.

As you would any other mask, apply the mixture evenly to your face and wait for five to 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water.

The Vaseline leaves the skin feeling refreshed and soft, while the Colgate has dried out any acne and leaves the skin with a tighter feel.

For best results use continuously for consecutive days until your skin is looking its best.

Turmeric powder is a miracle spice that works wonders inside and outside your body. According to healthline.com the spice contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components which may provide glow and lustre to the skin. Turmeric may also revive your skin by bringing out its natural glow.

It works especially well to reduce hyper-pigmentation and even out the skin tone with an easy-to-make face mask.

All you need is two teaspoons of turmeric powder and a few drops of water to mix into a smooth paste.

To prevent your fingers from staining yellow, use gloves or a brush to apply the paste evenly onto your face or other areas where hyper-pigmentation may occur.

Wait until dry and rinse off. Similarly to the previous mask, this remedy also works best when used consistently.

According to webmd.com, turmeric is also commonly used for conditions involving pain and inflammation, such as osteoarthritis. It is also a remedy for hay fever, depression, high cholesterol, a type of liver disease and itching, while some people use turmeric for heartburn, thinking and memory skills, inflammatory bowel disease and stress.

A bit of turmeric can be added to your morning cup of rooibos to help you glow from the inside out.

An ancient remedy has been revived in some social circles around town. Rice water has its origins in ancient China where women used it as a hair rinse and daily skin toner. Containing vitamins B, C and E, along with various minerals, this home remedy helps to tighten skin and shrink open pores on the face.

For hair, rice water is known to help thicken and grow it, giving you a luscious mane to be proud of.

There are various methods of making rice water online, and you can investigate which one works best for you.

I used the water from cooked rice, added orange peels and stored it for up to a week before use.

Although the smell isn’t the most fragrant, rice water is a reliable home remedy for beautiful skin and hair.

While these remedies are inexpensive and easy to make, they won’t substitute healthy habits such as exercising regularly, drinking enough water, getting ample sleep and eating healthy food.
