The 10-event 2024 Nedbank for Good Series raised N$250 000 to assist Agra ProVision in aiding underprivileged farmers.
The series concluded at the Omeya Golf Club outside of Windhoek, where the winners from each preliminary round battled for the chance of being crowned the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series champions.
Burger Bergh and Cehesta Walters came out on top in the men and women’s categories, securing their wins after hours on the golf course.
Since its launch five years ago, the series has brought together golf players and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to champion causes that uplift, empower, and create lasting changes in communities across the country.
Nedbank Namibia wealth management executive Biniam Ghirmatsion expressed his gratitude towards the organising teams for another successful series.
“At Nedbank Private Wealth we believe in connected wealth. This means that we believe that our money decisions reflect, reveal, and enable what is important to us,” Ghirmatsion said during the prize-giving ceremony in Windhoek.
“Therefore, us supporting this cause connects our money to what we feel is an important initiative. Philanthropy is not just about giving away money; it should go far beyond that – it should make a difference that lasts beyond our own lifetimes.
“It should be about creating a legacy that touches lives, uplifts communities, and builds a sustainable future for many generations to come,” Ghirmatsion said.
“When the series started in 2020, the initial cause which we supported through this golf series was the Autism Association of Namibia. For three years the event supported the association and managed to raise over N$600 000 as well some much-needed awareness, understanding and knowledge about people living with autism,” the executive said.
“Last year, the Rössing Foundation was the primary beneficiary, and we managed to raise a remarkable N$250 000 to aid pupils and teachers in rural areas who have limited access to educational resources.
“Each of these organisations continues to do vital work in our communities, and we are proud to have stood alongside them in their mission to empower and uplift the people in communities where we serve.”
Agra chief executive Arnold Klein says the competition is about a bigger causes which align with his company’s values.
“We believe in reinvesting in our communities and supporting the future of agriculture in Namibia. The funds raised through this initiative will be directed to Agra ProVision, dedicated to empowering people through skills development and capacity building,” Klein says.
“By offering practical and tailored training, Agra ProVision helps create opportunities including food production, employment, entrepreneurship and community growth.”
