Far-North champs to rock Oshakati

THE 2009 Old Mutual Far-North Championship will wind up its activities with the inter-region finals in both soccer and netball at Oshakati in the Oshana Region on Saturday.

The championship has covered soccer and netball contests by schools from all over the northern regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshikoto since 2004.The championship normally starts at regional level before the regional winners (one per region) meet in the inter-region finals to battle it out for the title at Oshakati Independence Stadium each year.Old Mutual Namibia’s marketing consultant Revonia Kahivere yesterday said the contest amongst the schools at the regional level has been completed already, and what remained are only the inter-region finals.Schools that are going to represent the said four northern regions in soccer are defending champions Ongha Senior Secondary School (SSS) (Ohangwena), Gabriel Taapopi SSS (Oshana), Haudano SSS (Omusati) and Nehale SSS (Oshikoto).Ongha SSS, Gabriel Taapopi SSS and Haudano SSS are also going to represent their respective regions in the netball code during this Saturday’s inter-region finals, while Uukule SSS will represent Oshikoto region in this code.Defending champions in netball, Eengedjo SSS from Omungwelume settlement in Ohangwena, could not make it into the inter-region finals this time around.The draw of the inter-region football finals is as follows: Gabriel Taapopi SSS vs Haudano SSS and Ongha SSS vs Nehale SSS, while in netball category Gabriel Taapopi SSS vs Haudano SSS and Ongha SSS vs Uukule SSS.Old Mutual Namibia sponsored the Far-North championship to the tune of N$150 000 for administration and prizes to be awarded to the winners. – Nampa
