The thing that is absolutely neat about fashion and lifestyle influencers and vloggers, is the fact you get to easily see the world through their eyes.
When content is curated correctly, it can be a window into a life you yourself might not have, but one that interests and inspires you nonetheless. Some of these things can be truly aspirational, which is why this type of content does so well in this day and age so dominated by social media.
As creatives we are always looking for ways to connect with people, while entertaining and informing them.
Falleria Kandji seems to understand this formula well.
The fashion enthusiast has a taste for classic pieces and sustainable shopping, and she is fast rising as an authority in her field.
The 22-year-old is the mastermind behind a unique YouTube channel featuring a retro-chic aesthetic that is effortless, with clear similarities between her taste and the timeless smart-casual look that endures through the ages.
She posts a range of vlogs featuring skincare routines, what she eats, as well as fashion inspiration that is both simple and easy on the pocket.
Creators like her matter in the fashion space because her message is relevant. Now is the right time to care about sustainability, since the clothing industry has long been a large contributor of the global climate crisis.
One way Kandji contributes to lowering the effects of the fashion industry on the world, is by spreading awareness on less harmful practices. Another is running her own thrift store, Falleria’s Closet, where shoppers can source longer-lasting pieces.
“Sustainable fashion allows for individuality and self-expression through timeless pieces of high-quality clothing which can be passed on from generation to generation.
“I still have items in my closet that belonged to my grandma,” she says, adding that fast fashion might seem convenient because of its low cost and easy accessibility, but it ultimately comes at a much greater cost to the Earth.
“One has to think about the environmental effects that come with mass production of clothes, like the pollution of the ocean due to the use of dyes and micro plastics, carbon emissions from mass production and the labour involved.”
We love her look because the practicality and durability of her pieces allow her to keep a smaller wardrobe for longer, and it means that she employs much more creativity in her everyday overall aesthetic. She would look equally at home on the streets of Seoul or Paris – known for their edgy street fashion.
Her content is just intimate enough that viewing her videos is like consuming a well-told story, and the effort that goes into capturing her journey is unmissable.
For the average person to follow in her environmentally conscious footsteps, she advises an investment in sustainable fashion brands rather than those that are mass produced, as well as buying second-hand items.
We would love to see way more fashion content like hauls, industry chats and behind-the-scenes footage from photo shoots and events from this vlogger, and we are keen to see her grow.
