Eyelash Extensions To Make Your Eyes Pop

Some women are blessed with long, luscious eyelashes while others have to invest in mascara or false eyelashes to achieve the same effect.

Eyelash extensions have been popular for a while now, and most women have tried the cosmetic procedure. Recently I decided to join the growing trend and tried it out.

I must admit, I had previously thought eyelash extensions would be a bit of an irritation, need too much maintenance and take up too much time. As a busy working mom I don’t often have the patience for anything that takes up unnecessary time. But as I learned after trying it out, eyelash extensions are actually a great time saver. I barely have to apply mascara, let alone an eyelash curler or struggle to glue on fake eyelashes.

Eyelash extensions can last up to four weeks if done by the right technician and maintained properly. Most technicians apply eyelash extensions using two pairs of tweezers. The first pair is used to separate your natural lashes and the second pair holds the lash extension, which is dipped in glue and then placed on top of the isolated natural lash. Typically, from 40 to 100 eyelash extensions are applied per eye.

The entire process takes less than two hours and I found it to be very relaxing. So much so that I even fell asleep. The short nap really helped in the midst of my busy schedule.

If you are considering eyelash extensions, I have a bit of advice to help you on your way…

Before making an appointment I would suggest doing research about the technician first. There are too many chance takers out there. With the recession they are increasing. Finding someone who is certified to apply the lashes is definitely a must. Also look at their before and after photos. Your health is way more important than saving a few N$100 notes.

Your skincare routine will likely change after having the extensions done. Something as simple as rubbing my eyes has become a big no-no, and can even be painful if done too hard. I can’t use any oil-based products near my eyes as it can damage the lashes and cause them to fall out.

Even the way I sleep has changed. I usually fall asleep on my tummy but the sensation of your lashes on the pillow can be rather uncomfortable and even slightly painful.

Long showers and swimming are also out, as water can weaken the adhesive and cause lashes to fall out. Eyelash extensions can come with some risks, so chat to your eye doctor if you are concerned.
