GLITZ, glamour and fabulosity were only a few of the ingredients that made up for an exciting Mr Gay Namibia 2018.
As the stage was set at the FNCC on Friday night, the Mr Gay Namibia contestants were set to go head-to-head with each other in a bid to win the crown. And compete they did. With a large turnout of supporters from various cultures, the event was surely the embodiment of inclusivity.
Competing in four categories, the finalists came to stage in four different attires throughout the night, namely, traditional wear, funky, swimwear and formal. Sponsored by Markham, the men didn’;t disappoint with their on-stage presence and confidence. Some, however, were a bit shaken by the judges’; questions.
Controlling the stage and a rowdy audience, MC Guro Milton was joined on stage by Alfred Maretha who was dressed in drag and went by his alter ego, Solange. Organiser and former Mr Gay Namibia, Wendelinus Hamutenya was happy about the outcome of the show.
“Honestly speaking, it was a very successful show. I’;m happy about the turnout, the people came in big numbers to support,” he said, adding that there were no security problems as the night ended smoothly.
Although the show was in many terms successful, it did however drag on a bit too long as the crowning of the new Mr Gay Namibia only happened around midnight. Collin van der Westhuizen was second runner up while a surprisingly confident Jason du Plessis was first runner-up, and Rivelino Reinecke was handed the title of Mr Gay Namibia 2018.
While the other contestants didn’;t make the cut, each had their fan base on the night with Gavin van Wyk and Gospert Kaffer garnering cheers throughout. Mr Gay Namibia 2018 was certainly an event not to have been missed.
The winner, Reinecke, will represent Namibia at Mr Gay World 2019 in Hong Kong, China. At the time of print, the winner was unreachable for comment.
