A woman (50) was allegedly stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend, who later took his own life, in the early hours of Sunday at Rehoboth’s Block E.
This was confirmed by national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi in the police’s weekend crime report on Sunday.
Shikwambi says the incident took place at around 04h00 when the suspect, identified as Christiaan Kooitjie (42), allegedly found the deceased, Sofia Nero, at another man’s house.
Kooitjie allegedly demanded that the door be opened, but when the man inside refused, he used a homemade weight bar to force it open.
“It is alleged that when the man realised the door was forcefully opened he jumped towards the door, noticed the suspect with an open knife in his hand, pushed the suspect out of the way and fled.
“Upon coming back with the police the deceased was discovered with three stab wounds on the left side of her neck,” Shikwambi says.
The police say Kooitjie fled the scene but was later found dead in his room.
The next of kin have been informed and investigations continue.
