End-of-Year Gaming Releases

The holidays are coming up and sometimes, you just want some time to yourself to relax in front of your favourite console. We’ve collected some games you should check out this festive season to kill the boredom bug and enjoy a gaming experience like no other.

‘Life is Strange’ was one of the most visually pleasing and intricate games you could find out there. Every decision you made led to devastating effects: You played as Maxine ‘Max’ Caulfield, a 12th grader in the small town of Arcadia Bay. She continuously gets flashbacks of a huge tornado, and wakes up with extraordinary powers after she witnesses the murder of her childhood friend. Now she can rewind time. In ‘Life Is Strange 2’, you take on the role of Sean Diaz, whose brother has new and interesting abilities, but they’re forced to flee their home after unexpected deaths. Only four episodes of the game have been released so far, but good news: The fifth one is coming out in early December, and will be available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

You cannot talk car games without mentioning ‘Need For Speed’. The premier franchise has captured the world since its release in 1994 from ‘Hot Pursuit’ to ‘Undercover’ and ‘Shift’. Now, it’s time for ‘Need For Speed: Heat’ to shine. BMW has also jumped on board to showcase some of its stunning new cars that are ready to pump up your adrenaline through trailers. You’ve got the BMW 2010 and 2018 M3, the Ferrari 458 Spider, Lamborghini’s Aventador, Diablo and Murciélago, Land Rover’s Range, a Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016 hot hatch, and loads more. With this red-hot selection, what’s there not to love? The release date is this week and you can get yours on all gaming consoles.

The ‘Star Wars’ universe is complex, and sometimes you won’t quite remember the story unless you’ve paid really close attention, but who cares when you’ve got an awesome gaming experience? ‘Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order’ takes you into the shoes of Padawan Cal Kestis, one of the last surviving jedi, and your goal is to avoid assassins who are determined to kill you while visiting new worlds. There’s no avoiding combat with this one – either you face your enemies head-on or you die. At least, ‘the force’ is with you… The game is available from next week on Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Gaming developers are banking on game names to get their money flowing and ‘Darksiders: Genesis’ is no exception. The new game, which is considered a ‘”spin-off prequel’ in the ‘Darksiders’ universe, takes you into the shoes of the fourth horseman of the apocalypse, Strife, and his brother War who attempt to bring a balance between heaven and hell. Together, they hack and slash at enemies in a post-apocalyptic world in order to defeat Lucifer and save mankind. Question is… do they? Google Stadia, Google’s new iCloud gaming service, and Microsoft Windows will have their piece of the pie from December, but Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users will have to wait until February 2020.

‘Elder Scrolls: Blades’ takes you on a journey preceding ‘Elder Scrolls: Skyrim’, a massive role-playing game that will keep your eyes glued to your screen for a long time. The first-person perspective allows you to navigate through several cities to become a champion while customising things to your liking and participating in one-on-one arena battles. With even more incredible stories, ‘Elder Scrolls: Blades’ ticks so many boxes in gaming, we suggest you add this edition to your collection soon! ‘Blades’ has been available on mobile devices for some time now, but it’s better to get it on a bigger screen. It’ll be available on Nintendo Switch and Playstation 4 devices later this year.
