Elisenheim woman appears in court for alleged murder of brother-in-law

Andrea Maasdorp

A woman from the Elisenheim residential area of Windhoek appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of allegedly murdering her brother-in-law in an incident on Sunday afternoon.

Andrea Maasdorp (46) remains in custody.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi reported yesterday that Abre Maasdorp (40) was allegedly killed by his sister-in-law at around 14h35 on Sunday.

Shikwambi said Maasdorp and his brother, the suspect’s estranged husband, Granville Maasdorp (45), who were at a separate location, were alerted by the couple’s daughter (18) that her mother was allegedly smashing items in their house.

“Upon their arrival at the house, the suspect allegedly stormed towards them, and stabbed the estranged husband two times.

The ex-husband allegedly ran out of the house,” Shikwambi said.

The suspect allegedly then attacked her brother-in-law and stabbed him several times with a knife.

Emergency services were summoned and declared Abre dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.
Shikwambi said the injured man is reported to be in a stable condition.

A neighbour of the suspect, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said two teenage girls ran to her house shortly before the incident was reported.

“They came to my house and said we should call the ambulance and the police, mostly the ambulance,” the neighbour said.

The neighbour said she called security to respond to the situation, adding that the girls later told her that their mother had stabbed their father and uncle, and that it appeared the uncle was not alive.

According to a leaked message circulating on an Elisenheim neighbourhood WhatsApp group, the suspect allegedly stabbed Abre twice in the lower right side of the stomach and once on the right side of the chest, causing him to collapse.
