Elemotho Extends Global Footprint

JUST over four months after first announcing his musical trip to Germany, Elemotho is back in his beloved homeland after performing in Europe for almost three months.

Elemotho performed in 10 shows for the ‘Oshi-Deutsch’ theatre production in Osnabrück and at the same time also had 10 other shows with fellow Namibian musician Samuel Batola on their ‘Afro-Acoustic Experience’

“It was exciting to perform in different genres. Working on the ‘Oshi-Deutsch’ production was great because I enjoyed working as a theatre musician again,” Elemotho said.

Mostly based in Berlin, the duo performed at various festivals such as the Kenako Festival-Berlin. He says he was honoured to also perform at the Frankfurt International Theatre.

Having worked with Batola for years now, Elemotho says he was happy to have shared the stage with the guitarist and vocalist.

Although they did not record all the performances, the musician says they are in the process of editing some of the recorded footage and may have it available to the music lovers at a later stage.

He took the opportunity of the sit down acoustic setting to introduce the audience to some of his new music. Having performed in Germany a few times before, Elemotho says it wasn’t very difficult to connect with the audience. It is evident from album sales there that his music was well received.

“I did some of the old songs also, but the new songs were to prepare the audience for the upcoming album. I believe as a musician it is important to always keep things fresh so it is always nice to do shows like these.”

When it comes to staying relevant, Elemetho has his game on lock. He believes in keeping fans guessing and the same principle applies for his upcoming album ‘Beautiful World’.

“As we grow, we need to keep growing musically. The storytelling needs to continue. I grew up with storytelling so I strongly believe in telling stories through my music,” Elemotho said.

Having performed all over Africa and several European countries, Elemotho says his music has been growing and his audience keeps growing bigger with every performance. He said South African audiences are still warming up to him and he is experiencing growth there.

“Frankfurt has been showing love for some time now and I see now Berlin is also showing love but it took some time to warm up to them.”

Talking about his upcoming album, Elemotho says ‘Beautiful World’ is all about appreciating diversity. Describing himself as a concept musician, Elemotho believes that you need to be what you want people to listen to hence he spends a lot of time creating an album.

He respects people who release albums every year, but believes that you have to live stories before you can tell them and that is why he will never be able to release albums every year.

“I would not recommend releasing an album every year.”

With the new album, music lovers can expect poetry and of course that element of surprise. Packaging his tour of Africa and his recent performance in Germany, Elemotho says ‘Beautiful World’ will be a loaded album with individually unique tracks that tell a unified story.

The singer will be performing at the Warehouse Theatre tomorrow as an extension of the ‘Afro-Acoustic Experience’.

Entrance is N$80 in advance at eventstoday.com.na and at the Biltong Shop Maerua Mall, and N$100 at the door.
