The very first Ekuku Fashion Show is set to debut at the northern expo, showcasing indigenous culture, gritty designs, and fresh faces.
The event is scheduled for 25 June to 1 July, at Oshakati, extension six at the Okatana-Oshakati main road.
Hosted by Ekuku Expo Business Market CC, a registered small business entity with northern roots, the show is more than a catwalk – it’s a message regarding community, creativity and development.
“We are excited to host this fashion show for the first time as part of the Ekuku Expo,” says Ester Nakashole, founder and lead event organiser.
“This project is about offering a dynamic platform where our local designers and models can shine, gain exposure, and access new opportunities.”
With its motto being, ‘Together We Can Make It Bigger and Better’, the Ekuku Expo has grown into a new platform for northern Namibia, pushing economic integration and cultural exchange.
From its inaugural event on 25 June 2023, the expo has grown in size and impact year after year, welcoming increasing numbers of exhibitors, creatives and visitors.
This year’s event will feature new and established designers who are pushing boundaries and creating trends in the region.
Although the final list of designers has not been established, shortlisting will be based on creativity, originality, and relevance to the values of the show.
“The fashion section will not only highlight unique Namibian styles but also serve as a launching pad for new talent,” says Nakashole.
“It’s an opportunity for young creatives – designers, models, stylists or photographers – to receive real exposure and be part of something revolutionary.”
The fashion show is designed to create awareness for the brand, encourage creative innovation, and promote jobs in the local fashion industry. Catwalk models will strut out looks that blend tradition with a modern edge, giving a bonanza to fashion lovers and inspiration to tomåorrow’s trendsetters.
The event will also feature the Miss Ekuku and Miss Ekuku Junior pageants, live entertainment, local food and drink vendors, educational exhibits, a VIP lounge, and a children’s corner – something for every family member.
“The Ekuku Expo is rapidly becoming a northern anchor for innovation and identity. Our long-term vision is to make the Ekuku Expo an annual major event,” Nakashole says.
“We want to continue empowering local entrepreneurs, celebrating our heritage, and encouraging creativity in every area.”
As the fashion show gets ready to illuminate the catwalk for the first time, all eyes are on Ekuku – a rapidly emerging hub where fashion, business and culture converge under one spectacle.
