NOT since Stefan Ludik in the very first of the popular Big Brother Africa reality series has a Namibian housemate captured the hearts of viewers across the continent. Eddie is original, fun and cool and on Friday afternoon he solidified at least another week in the game.
A rather unlikely winner, Eddie is this week’s Head of House.Friday’s hide-and-seek HOH task was won by Eddie in record time. A small star was hidden somewhere in the house. In a matter of seconds, Eddie found it, amid much congratulating from the other housemates! The Prank Master as he has become known has promised a week of fun, fun, fun, appointing the equally crazy Mzamo as his deputy for his week of madness. I see a pretty prank filled and mad week ahead. Yaay for Eddie. With only five weeks until the finale and announcement of the winner, every week he survives in the house counts. I dare not get my hopes up, especially when you consider the popularity of some of the remaining housemates, but I am so proud of Eddie for coming this far. I hope he makes it to the final and I will be supporting our crazy, cool guy all the way. A win for Namibia would be great and I can’t think of a better guy to win. He’s original, fun-loving, easy going and good hearted and he’s flying the Namibian flag high, almost literally! As HOH, it will be very interesting to see how Eddie handles the nomination swap. Since the beginning of the game he has tried to avoid most of the strategising and conspiring that has swept through the house, preferring to create a fun atmosphere by joking around and devising elaborate pranks. If he doesn’t replace one of the nominated housemates with another, he will be automatically nominated, I wonder who he will choose?Usual suspect number one is Itai. Besides the fact that Eddie has nominated him several times in the past citing his grudge with Itai putting Yacob and Hannington up and ultimately getting them evicted. This coupled with the argument they had last week, where Itai blamed Eddie for hiding one of his shoes makes it pretty likely that he will choose Itai. The exchange got quite heated with Itai resorting to below the belt insults and just plain nastiness. I wouldn’t blame Eddie if he did put Itai’s head on the chopping block. Some fans on the forums, particularly Yacob & Hannington fans have long been waiting to get rid of Itai for good. Mondays are nomination days in BBA land, so remember to tune into Channel 102 at 20h00 tonight to see how Eddie handles his HOH duties. Back in the house, Nigerian superstar D’Banj was the celebrity guest for Friday evening. He performed a couple of his songs, promoted his designer range of sunglasses by hiding two pairs and sending the housemates on a mini-treasure hunt throughout the house. Kevin and Nkenna were the lucky two to walk away with a snazzy new pair of blinged out sunglasses. Lucky buggers. He also brought some typical Nigerian food, which had Nkenna and Kevin happily screeching away. They were so happy to have a taste of home. D’Banj aka the Kokomaster brought a popular Nigerian dish named Egusi which is a pounded Yam and other tasty delicacies. Eddie loved trying the different dishes and really seemed to enjoy the experience. Saturday started off on a quiet note, with some housemates sleeping late and others just relaxing in the garden but with one of the more noticeable housemates, noticeably missing…It seemed as though Eddie had just vanished into thin air. The other housemates speculated that he could have been whisked off to Big Brother Finland but a couple of hours later, and he emerged from behind one of the big statues! The prank was cool as it had even me guessing! A Big Brother house swap has taken place before, with Gaetano from BBA1 spending a week in the Big Brother UK house. There are a couple of Big Brothers on the go around the world at the moment, so who knows! Would be a pretty awesome twist. Eddie would probably be able to fit in pretty well with the Finns – considering his Scandinavian roots from a childhood spent in exile in Sweden. The arena games only started in the late afternoon and this week it involved riding a mechanical bull and playing with water guns. Elizabeth proved she knows how to ride when she managed to stay the longest on a wild, rotating mechanical bull. Hmm, I’m sure the sexy image of Eliza riding that bull will stay imprinted on Kevin’s brain. Those two are still at it, arguing and having little mini-fights here and there. I caught a very deep exchange between the two, Elizabeth was crying about a secret she’s keeping. Telling Kevin that he’s the first person she would have told and that her boyfriend doesn’t even know. She worried about how her mother was coping and said she didn’t know where or why something had happened to her. She told Kevin that he wouldn’t even be able to look her in the eye once she told him. She never did get round to telling him her secret, Emma walked by, saw her crying and came over to comfort her. She’s such a paradox, cold and angry at times and then vulnerable and wounded. Their relationship has been characterised by Kev professing his love for her while she has to fight off his advances. She says she doesn’t want Kevin but she still stays close to him. She allows him into her bed, just to chase him out a couple of hours later. She has this mysterious boyfriend on the outside, whose name she won’t even say. Apparently they agreed that she wouldn’t identify him while in the house. I find her to be very strange but somehow compelling. What could she be referring to? I have my own theories and they fit in with the way she has kept Kevin at arm’s length but I’ll be watching to see how this little relationship drama plays out. Hopefully it will all reveal itself on the show.At the time of going to print, eviction results were unavailable but by now we all know who has been evicted.
