DTS FC member Paulo Coelho has filed a formal complaint against SKW goalkeeper Enrico ‘Oros-mannetjie’ Tjiramba over his alleged “violent and unsportsmanlike conduct” during a recent league match.
A letter seen by The Namibian Sport says during a match between DTS and SKW held at the DTS stadium, Tjiramba displayed aggressive behaviour – both verbally and physically.
“After an initial exchange of light-hearted banter, Tjiramba responded with vulgar language directed at Coelho, and later proceeded to physically assault him on the field, striking the complainant in the face.”
Tjiramba allegedly picked up a large rock, before being restrained by other players.
DTS management says violent behaviour has no place in football, let alone in an organised and community-based league that promotes sportsmanship and respect.
The club says Tjiramba’s actions not only caused serious physical harm, but also posed a serious safety risk to everyone present.
DTS management has now called for his immediate suspension from the league pending disciplinary action.
The club says despite Tjiramba being involved in coaching activities, DTS has urged the league and SKW’s management to review his suitability to mentor or lead players in any capacity.
The letter says a criminal case of assault has been opened at the police.
Coelho says he hopes the league will treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves, and take decisive action to ensure such incidents are never repeated.
He says the culture of aggression and disregard for fair play associated with SKW in recent fixtures must not continue to go unaddressed.
SKW’s management did not comment by the time of going to print.
