Dowie wins in Cape Town

Namibia’s rising young tennis star, Israel Dowie won the Cape Town Super 8 Boys u14 title on Wednesday. 

Dowie, who was seeded fifth for the tournment, beat the ninth seed, Luhan van Niekerk of South Africa 6-0 6-3 in the final. 

Dowie knocked out two of the top seeds on the way to the final after beating the third seed, Daniel Brink 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals and the second seed Nicholas Kruger 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinals. 

Another Namibian, Johan Theron finished 15th overall after reaching the third round. He beat Daniel Heynes of South Africa 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and another South African, the 14th seeded Liyema Mancoba 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 in the second round, before his run came to an end with a 7-5, 6-0 defeat to the seventh seeded South African Tristan van der Merwe in the Round of 16.
