Double blow for DJ Euphonik

IT WAS a day of double trouble for 5FM DJ Euphonik, real name Themba Nkosi, when he appeared in court before two magistrates in less than two hours where he faced off with his ex-girlfriend Bonang Matheba.

Euphonik is one of South Africa’s most successful young DJ’s.Nkosi appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, first in the criminal court and later in the domestic violence court after Matheba – who is a YFM DJ and television personality – laid claims that he had assaulted her and damaged her cellphone during an attack at her home in Hyde Park, Jo’burg.Yesterday Matheba, came to court armed with an interim protection order, which she obtained from the court on May 30.Nkosi was also ordered by the court not to set foot at Matheba’s apartment. The popular DJ was arrested on June 6, a few days after he allegedly kicked a window at Matheba’s apartment to gain entry after a lovers’ fight that had taken place earlier at his place in Westdene, also in Johannesburg.Euphonik allegedly followed Matheba to her apartment and begged her to open the door. But Matheba, who is also known as Queen B, refused. Once inside, Euphonik allegedly took her laptop, smashed it on the ground and assaulted her. Matheba sustained injuries on an eye and upper lip. Yesterday, he was not asked to plead to charges of housebreaking, assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, and malicious damage to property during his brief court appearance before magistrate Vincent Pienaar.Prosecutor Fikile Hlabangani placed it on record that investigations were still to be completed, that the state still needed to obtain statements from witnesses and that the J88 form, which records the nature of injuries, was still outstanding.Euphonik’s R3 000 bail was extended and he was warned to return to court on July 24. He then proceeded upstairs to the domestic violence unit of the court where the parties, accompanied by their lawyers, appeared in camera before magistrate Benny Lechoba.- www.sowetanlive.co.za
