Don Kamati Promises Long-awaited Project Out in 2022

The ever-illustrious reggae dancehall enigma that is Don Kamati has been on a bender of collaborations that have seen him being dubbed one of the year’s most hardworking musicians.

Although he’s been making music for a while, Don Kamati still hasn’t released a full body of work.

“In 2022, I feel obliged to give my fans what they have been asking for, and that is an album or an EP. I’m rebranding the whole Don Kamati image, and I intend to tackle the new year in full force,” Kamati says.

He adds that he is looking forward to doing more social work in his community, because the people are the ones who actually make him who he is, and for this he feels the need to give back.

Commenting on the year that was, Kamati says 2021 was a very productive year, which saw him travelling to many places around the country and meeting fans.

“I did a lot of networking this year, especially when I kicked off my collaboration tour, which also taught me a lot. I did not expect that my music was being played all over the country until I actually went to these small towns.

“It was overwhelming but I have to say, I am blessed to have experienced that because it opened many other doors.”

Although the ‘Maspenda’ singer had a good year, he acknowledges that the industry was hit very hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We learned a lot from the pandemic on how to navigate the industry,” says Kamati. “I think the current state is depressing, but there has to be a silver lining because God will never give us something we cannot handle.”

Although he has done many music collaborations this year with artists such as DJ Kboz, Karishma, Toufi, RODA and Tapz, he says his favourite local acts of 2021 include Chris Wayne and The Musketeers, who are from Walvis Bay.
