LONDON – British rocker Pete Doherty has been fined by Swiss authorities after his British Airways flight landed in Geneva, police in the city said yesterday.
A spokesman for Geneva police declined to confirm the reason for the fine, but sources said it was imposed for drug consumption.
The incident occurred on Thursday and Doherty was released a few hours after being detained, the spokesman added.
Doherty’s record label declined to comment on the incident.
The 30-year-old lead singer of the Babyshambles, once a tabloid newspaper favourite for his relationship with British supermodel Kate Moss and well-publicised battle with drug abuse, was jailed last year for breaching the terms of his probation.
But he has remained out of the headlines since then, except during the launch of his debut solo album ‘Peter Doherty: Grace/Wastelands’ in March.
