KWAITO artists The Dogg and Qonja launch their Christmas album, ‘Let’s Celebrate’, at the Playhouse Theatre in Windhoek tonight.
‘Let’s Celebrate’ is believed to be the first Namibian Christmas album. Produced by The Dogg, the eight-track CD is characterised by the heavy bumping beats the Mshasho icon has become known for.It opens with ‘Let’s Celebrate’ on which Dogg and Qonja feature the velvet-voiced TeQuila. It’s just nice to hear kwaito artists rapping about and the spirit of giving and praising Christ for a change. Definitely my personal favourite track on the album. The track ‘Be My Shepherd’ takes on a complete Hip Hop shape as the two artists rope in the services of Lil D and KK – two of the youngest and most gifted artists in the country – as they call for behavioural change during the festive season.’Merry Christmas’ has a Mandoza feel all over it; Dogg and Qonja rap superbly as they hail Christmas and the good and wonderful times the festive season holds.Back-up dancer Chesta makes his debut behind the mic on the dancehall-influenced ‘Let’s Do This’, a high tempo dance track zipping with energy. The remaining three tracks are all remixes of ‘Let’s Do This’, also featuring Nasty, while there are also instrumental versions of ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and ‘Be My Shepherd’.Speaking about tonight’s launch, The Dogg said: ‘This is actually planned to be a real party. We just want the people to come and have fun with us. This is a very historical moment for both Qonja and I and we want to make it a memorable event for all our fans.’It is not always that artists come up with something Christmas and we are both thrilled about this project. We want to give our fans a real Christmas gig and just have fun at the Playhouse Theatre, so put on your dancing shoes and come in numbers.’All the artists featuring on the album, Tequila, KK, Lil D, the entire Mshasho Crew and young gifted kwaito group Magogos will be in action.Admission fee is 100 with cd, 200 vip cd. Snacks and champagne 50.
