Doëseb makes U-turn to Arrows

ELEVEN Arrows owner Johnny Doëseb has decided to return to the team he quit on July 20, a club spokesman said yesterday.

Arrows spokesman and chairman of the board Nana Tjombe confirmed that Doëseb had decided to continue running the operations of the club after they had cleared up the ‘misunderstandings’ between them.Tjombe said Doëseb and all the parties met and agreed to continue with the business of the club like in the past. Doëseb quit the as owner and executive chairman due to what he termed constant interference from some community members in managing the team.In fact, he has a ten-year agreement with the club, according to Tjombe. At the time, Doëseb said he had had enough of the persistent interference by unnamed members, who had ‘ganged up’ against him to take over the administration of the team. But Tjombe said an agreement had been reached that from now on, supporters or members of the team would use the proper communication channels to air their grievances. He said it was unfortunate that Doëseb was targeted by some members from the supporters’ club, but they have now resolved to discuss matters internally instead of running to the media.Doëseb took over Arrows a season and a half ago as the sole owner and has during that period single-handedly invested over N$2 million in the team.Arrows ended fifth in the Namibia Premier League the past season and were runners-up in the Cell One NFA Cup after Orlando Pirates.Tjombe said the spokesperson of the Eleven Arrows Supporters’ Club, Kanguu Musambani, who had made remarks in one of the newspapers about Doëseb’s management style, has apologised.Musambani told The Namibian Sport that he had no intention of forcing Doëseb to quit, but was just reacting to questions by the reporter of one of the weekly newspapers on the status of the coaching staff and the position of the supporters’ club on the situation.Tjombe says they have not yet confirmed who the new coach will be for the next season. The contract of Gilbert Rwasoka comes to an end at the end of this month. In fact, Rwasoka left at the end of the season already after failing to meet the mandate set for him.Tjombe said former Arrows technical director and Black Africa coach Ronnie Kanalelo was earmarked for the job, but nothing has been finalised yet.’We are still looking at several other possibilities and cannot say with certainty if we will hire Ronnie or any person. So, we are still looking and will make a formal announcement when the time is right,’ he said. But Tjombe added that the team needed some reinforcement in several departments, especially the striking force, after their hot-shot, Rudolf Bester, was recently snapped up by South African premiership side Maritzburg United. They are also on the verge of losing their number one and Brave Warriors goalkeeper, Virgil Vries, who is currently on trials in South Africa with Supersport United. corry@namibian.com.na
